I want

I was reading the Flea Market Style magazine and they had a picture of a bunch of deviled egg plates (sorry to spoil that one photo for you Mom). I didn't even realize such things existed! But, how great would that be to have on a dresser to throw your rings, earrings, loose change, thumb tacks, bobby pins, blah blah blah, on? On ebay you can find them for a reasonable price, but, it's the shipping that is killer! So, I'll wait until the right deal comes my way. Keep your eyes out for me!

The Haps

Today, my first two articles for The Daily Herald were printed on the front page of the 'Our Towns' section. Woohoo!

Yay for bylines! It's kind of fun to see your name immortalized..... in ink?
I also went out and got this:

Technically I'm supposed to be sending it to my mother, but I think I'll take a gander for a couple of days 'fore I ship it over two states.

I also felt like making some changes in my room, starting with cleaning up some of the clutter and washing my laundry and sheets. Then I moved all my record covers together to make them appear more like a piece of art instead of six things hanging on the wall.

I've also been on the hunt for something to use as a bookshelf/extra storage to the left of my desk. There were a couple of things at DI that could've worked, but one was overpriced, and one just felt too bulky. I want something wirey or airy or something. I even made a trip down to Spanish Fork to look around an antique store there, but they didn't have a lot that would've worked, and the stuff they had was antique priced. So....the hunt continues.

Olympic Gold

.....or almost.

Boy challenged the depth of my musical knowledge, saying if I could name the artist and title for a set of lyrics he would get me roses. Fortunately I didn't even struggle. See how you do....

I should have known better with a girl like you
That I would love everything that you do
And I do, hey, hey, hey, and I do.

I got it my first answer, and so quickly that boy thought I used an oft-trusty ally — Google. I assure you, as I did him, that I did not.

And so last night, I was delivered my reward. And they are gorgeous.

Not quite Olympic Gold, but close, right?

I didn't really plan on actually getting roses. The glory of being right was quite enough for me. But, it was a nice reminder that boys can treat girls well. Sometimes we ladies forget.

Did you get the correct artist and title, too?
'I should have known better' by The Beatles

*Disclaimer: I know I've recently bragged about flowers, but these I just had to share. They definitely brighten up a room, and a whole day, really!

Viewpoint: War isn't faceless

I've been the editor for the Opinion page for almost two months now, and this is only my second column I've written; the first one I wrote was during my first week on the job. I'm not complaining! Having so many people willing and eager to write viewpoints definitely takes stress away from putting together the page.

I hope you'll take the time to read this viewpoint. If you are having trouble reading it, you can go to the website and read it.

Tie Dye

February is a pretty gray month, wouldn't you say? Aside from the whole explosion of pink and red around a certain lover's holiday. Driving to and from Oregon made me want to barf a little bit. Gray ground. Gray mountains. Gray road. Gray, dirty cars and houses. Gray snow. Gray skies. Idaho is usually an unimpressive gray, but even it exuded a surprising lack in colors along a gray scale.

So, much to the relief of my gray overdose, my date on Friday included some tie dying. Boy bought some Wal-Mart special white denim pants and I dyed three pairs of socks. Usually, you associate tie dye with the free-loving, casual souls of the hippie movement. But, tie dying with boy resembles no such feeling. It is a serious business, with reason and order, meticulous twisting, measuring and serious facial expressions.

(Notice the cut hairs? C'est bon.)

We didn't get too many cool designs out of it all, but the color was a welcome sigh of relief in a gray world.  I think his pants looked more like a pair of unskilled painter's pants instead of his desired flamboyancy, but he's happy.

In keeping with the color theme, today I painted my fingernails a bright 'celestial' blue.

What are you doing to welcome color back into your life?

can you take the heat?

This is what my roommate has set our thermostat to. A certain inapropriate Nelly song comes to mind. 83 is NOT an acceptable room temp people!

Fotos

Here's some photos from the last week to stimulate your eyeballs. My sister, Riley, especially enjoyed the photobooth application on my Mac. This is just a small sample of the many crazy photos we took and laughed at.

(Tobi and me. He loves it.)

I got back from Oregon late Tuesday and was given this bouquet by this boy. I was excited because, well, obviously they were for me and second because they weren't your run of the mill roses. Not that there's anything wrong with roses, but these flowers were bright and different. Kind of like me, kind of like him.

Anyway, here's to a FAB weekend!

(Song: Lover by Devendra Banhart
I'm kind of obsessed
with this guy so
check him out.)

When I was younger, so much younger than today....

I have blogger's block. Or writer's block in general.

Help?!

MIA

If it seems I'm a bit MIA in blogging this week, it's because I've been packing and prepping for an extended weekend HOME.  Now I'm here, and despite 9 year-old meltdowns, boxes and boxes of girl scout cookies, missing out on collegiate show & tells, animals that need constant attention, wind, rain, snow, and motivation to do nothing but sit..... It is quite like bliss. Not the city in Idaho. I hate Idaho, by the way. Even more than ever before. Curse speeding tickets. Anyway, like I was saying. I'm home for the long weekend. So, here's me, sending you some Oregon love.

Cupcake Review

I'm doing a series of five blog posts for our school newspaper blog about cupcakes in the area. The first review is up: http://byudailyuniverse.com/blog/.

(See the introduction to the five part series here)

(P.P.S. That post of Spencer's head was for an in-class school assignment. Isn't it neat that I get to blog for school?)

(P.P.P.S. My mom just updated her blog for the first time since New Year's, let's show her some comment love.)

My beautiful friends

I love these two. They are so in love it makes me love love. Even in February.

They make each other laugh, constantly, and it's adorable.

Her sister, Rachel, was their photographer. Check out more from their wedding day on her blog.

Love.

Treats for Today

Just a couple of things for you.

First, the video of Pres. Obama's Q&A with GOP members. I was excited the President elected to do this. I think it is commendable and I hope he does more (More?! You want some MORE???!), I think it lends him more credibility as a man who is trying to serve his whole country, not just the Democrat folks.

Second, here is a picture of my Valentine's day envelope at work. It is now posted and available for any love poems, love requests, praises of my beauty and wit, as well as Valentine candy of the chocolate or sour varieties.
